TEACHER TIP # 2: I raise my hand while asking a question and my 2nd

---SECTION THREE: URGENT Plea from Springs Alive school in Uganda
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you've been following my newsletter for awhile, you know that we've
adopted a small village school in Kakiri, Uganda. If you are not familiar,
please watch our short video at: http://brains.org/uganda
I heard from the school director this week with an urgent plea. A storm has
torn a large hole in the side of one of their 2 primitive buildings, making it
unstable. In addition, they were unable to raise funds to make the required
improvements to their pit latrine. The Kakiri Town Council is threatening
to close the school. They have been given 2 weeks to make the repairs or
close - leaving the village children without any school and most without at
least one daily meal. They need $600 to make the minimum repairs.
I'm hoping at least 60 readers of this newsletter can find a way to collect $10 from
their school / classes to donate to help Springs Alive school. Most of us know
that just having a can to collect spare change can easily secure $10. We need
it by the first part of next week. You can donate w/ your credit card at our
bookshop: http://brains.org/storeYou will see an order button in the top row, right under the blue Help4Teacher banner
Email me if you have any questions. THANK YOU!
------SECTION FOUR: KATHIE'S EMAIL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello Kathie,
I had the pleasure of being able to attend your presentation yesterday
[in Berwick, ME] and I have to tell you, I left feeling like I had just met my
favorite athlete! I was so excited that I was able to meet you because
your work has rejuvenated my energy towards an approach I feel is the
greatest connection to education! Differentiated instruction, choice,
giving students the tools to feel successful! This is why I wanted to
be a teacher! I have been taking Jayne Perkins course through our
district and love Layered Curriculum!
Thank you very much for coming to our district and if you ever need
another guinea pig or classroom teacher to work with, I would love to
help! Thank you very much!
Melanie Levesque

Melanie,
Thanks so much for your note. I too had a great time in Berwick and
I know Jayne is doing a lot of great follow-up training there with
Layered Curriculum®. Keep in touch and have a great summer.

------SECTION FIVE: WORKSHOPS / SCHEDULE / MISC CHAT------
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summer is just around the corner (at least here in the northern hemisphere).
School years are wrapping up, AP tests are in progress, graduation plans
in the works....exciting time! As your year winds down, take some time for
yourself - it's easy to get caught up in the stress that this time of year creates.
I spent yesterday in New York City with the International High School at
LaGuardia Community College. It was a great day. Thank you to the staff
there and I'll look forward to hearing back from you. (we had a couple of
party crashers come over from the Brooklyn International HS - always
great to hear from you).
I'm back in New Hampshire now until my June whirlwind trip to southern Africa.
My fall and winter calendar are nearly full now with new workshops - and I'm now
booking for spring of 2013: http://help4teachers.com/
Or if you are interested in hosting a Layered Curriculum® workshop at your location,
just send me an email.
As always, my best to you and yours,
Kathie
